Laser marking masterbatches for coloured plastics

Lifocolor has added products for light-coloured markings in coloured plastics to its LIFOLAS M portfolio.

Lasermarking

Laser marking has established itself as a fast, precise and flexible process for marking polymer parts. A laser marking masterbatch enables contact-free, permanent marking without the need for ink or solvents. The corresponding LIFOLAS M portfolio from masterbatch manufacturer Lifocolor now includes products for bright markings in coloured polymers. This allows that polymers coloured in signal tones such as blue, green, red and yellow can clearly be labelled for further differentiation, for example oil or fuel caps or food caps.

Whether in packaging design or for industrial components in areas such as automotive and safety technology or electronics: laser marking of plastic parts has found its way into many industries for good reasons. For one thing, it has established itself as a fast, precise and flexible procedure. The technology is not only abrasion-resistant and therefore durable and forgery- proof. It is also flexible and suitable for almost all polymers, and its speed of implementation and variability make it very compatible with production and manufacturing processes. Laser marking is the process of applying a collimated beam of high energy light to a specific point on the surface of a material.

Some polymers such as PC can be marked well without laser additives under certain conditions. But others require special additives for marking them as high contrast as possible. This is where the LIFOLAS M additive preparations from Lifocolor help. It contains around 20 combination and additive preparations for laser marking in connection with various standard and engineering polymer types.

Recently included are markings in coloured plastics such as the popular differentiation colours blue, red, green or yellow. This means that coloured components such as oil or fuel caps, food caps and much more can be clearly labelled for differentiation. In addition to the new light-coloured markings in coloured polymers, dark markings in light-coloured or transparent plastics are also possible. Lifocolor also supports the development of tailor-made products for new applications that are not covered by the standard portfolio.
